Sunday I got up and drove the last two miles (15 minutes) to the trailhead and started hiking with a temp of 28 degrees. There was one other car at the trailhead, so maybe I will see someone today. I could see Mt. Edwards right from the trailhead, but it was overshadowed by Grays Peak, a 14er further down the ridge. As I neared the pass I saw a couple other cars park back at the trailhead, but neither group went my way. And I also started having snow on the trail, but it was well trampled from previous days hikers, but that also meant it was icy. At the pass I rested a bit, only to be surprised by a vehicle driving up from the other side. The driver took a few pictures and as was leaving was startled to see me there too. I continued along the ridge to the summit. I could see lots of climbers over on Grays and Torreys Peaks just to the west, and flirted with the idea of continuing along the ridge to Grays and then descending that way, but still too much snow to consider that safe. It was just cool enough that I decided I would postpone lunch until I returned to the saddle. Unfortunately for me, just as I got back to the saddle, a dozen ATVs drove up, with music pumping full volume, invading the pass. I just walked right through them and continued down the trail, needing to go a quarter mile before I could no longer hear the ruckus. I still did not see another climber the whole day.
